Orlando Clay Fandango March 12-16 2009
Posted by zevacat @ Sun Aug 31, 2008 3:50 pm
Hi,
I would like to invite everyone to come to the Orlando Clay Fandango in March! Perfect time to thaw out from the winter blues. The weather in St Augustine in March is just perfect. Not too hot or too cold. The registration forms and class info is on our website at:
http://www.oapcguild.com/Retreat.htm
The dates are March 12-16 2009. We have three options this year. Three full one day instruction with Lynne Ann Swarzenberg teaching her wonderful canes in Petal Mania, Christi Friesen having a blast with the Flying Pegasus and our very own Penni Jo Couch's gorgeous Faux Jade Inro.
The Advanced Full day classes with Dan Cormier teaching his Cutting Edge technique and Tracy Holmes Beach Stones so real you can't tell them from the real thing.
Now for the Retreater's we have the retreat only option where we will have demos throughout the day so you can pick and choose which ones you would like to attend. This option is great for beginners too....we can demo the basics for you. Or if you would like to come and demo let us know but let us know early...we have limited demo times and limited retreat only spaces.
The boutique will be open to the public this year. All members attending will be able to sell there creations in the boutique. We will have raffle items, goodie bags, demos, and a live Auction poolside.
Our 2009 Retreat is being held in beautiful St Augustine. We will be in the Holiday Inn right on the beach. St Augustine is the nation's Oldest and charming City. We planned this year's retreat to be in an area where the whole family can come. There is plenty for family members to do and see while we clay. I can't guarantee we will be in St Augustine in 2010 so fill out your registration today....spaces are filling up fast.

UV GLOS
Posted by cindypack @ Wed Aug 20, 2008 7:39 am
Anyone use the new UV GLOS? I just ordered some. There's a write up in Jewelry Artist magazine saying it's the best out there now as far as resins go. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has tried it.
Or any resins for that matter- anyone here use resins? I see them used a lot now and there's a project in JA magazine as well.

OLD Clay - Should I trash it?
Posted by Claychik @ Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:50 am
Hi All,
I have some rather mature clay hanging around, and as it is extremely crumbly, I mix it with a little bit of softer clay (i.e slightly younger Premo or Fimo Soft with old Fimo Classic) in order to be able to condition it. While it seems to soften up pretty well, it peels off in layers when it passes through a pasta machine (Makins non-stick rollers, no less!), sticks to molds no matter what I use as a release, and putting it through an extruder is a nightmare! The edges get all flaky-looking, and the clay looks a shade lighter, kind of powdery. It also seems pretty fragile when it's cured (I always use the higher temp of the two clays I mix).
Is there anything I can do to save my poor clay?? Or, should I just let it go?
Thanks in Advance,
Sharon S.

affixing pc tiles to glass
Posted by SusieB @ Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:22 am
Hello,
About 5 or 6 six years ago, I made picture frames by gluing polymer clay tiles to those clip together glass frames. I think I used super glue to affix the tiles to the glass, and I butted the edges of the tiles up against each other, so I didn't use any type of grout. I gave these as gifts and kept one for myself. Well, some of the tiles have popped off of the one I kept (I can only imagine what has happened to the ones I gave as gifts). Anyway, I want to try this process again, but with a more "professional" approach this time. I'll glue the tiles to the glass (with a better glue, I hope), leaving some space between the tiles, and grout (maybe with TLS?) My questions are:
1. What is a good, effective glue to use to affix the tiles directly to the glass? I read that Weldbond will glue anything, but can it go into the oven after the TLS is applied? Will it break down in the heat? Most important, does it become toxic at 275?
2. Is there a better grouting material to use than TLS? I have a little experience with "traditional" mosaic from years ago, so I understand the grouting process with regular grout, but was wondering how using TLS with color added (maybe Pearlex) will work.
I have Laurie Mika's book somewhere in my house, and I'm sure that it touches upon these questions (I just need to find the book in my stacked boxes of books--that's a job in itself). I was hoping that someone would know the answers to these questions right off the top of their head, just so I have some idea of what to expect.
Thanks for your help!
Susan

New Necklace
Posted by vjart @ Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:27 pm
This is a scrap from another project. It's basic texture sheet mokume gane. I used the Pearl-Ex Reflex Violet on the clay prior to impresing.
On the big project, I had used the Alizaren Crimsion(Premo) side to the front. I had this piece of scrap, and decided to try the purple side to the front. I rubbed some Pearl-Ex on it, and tried one of my new texture sheets on it.
I liked it, but only had this little piece, so here what I made from it.

Michaels Sale
Posted by homefolk2 @ Wed Jul 23, 2008 2:07 pm
Hi all,
Don't know if this helps anyone but next week Michaels has DOLLER DAYS.
Polymer clay is on sale for $1.00. If you haven't already checked it out I think they did some price changes on the polymer clay. In our store the every day price of PREMO has gone up. Next week's sale maybe a good chance to stock up at $1.00.
Also I found a box of brushes in the back to school section. They are
ROYAL & LANGNICKEL, golden taklon, 6 different styles in the box of 30 at $12.99. Using the 40% off coupon could mean $7.79.
Oh! Recently Corp' said you have to have your coupon in hand to be able to get the 40% off.
